The new development has been confirmed by PSC commissioner Ramon Fernandez to be one of their moves in honoring the legends of Philippine sports.

Diaz made history as ended the drought of the country after 97 years of not bagging any gold medals in which she dominated women’s 55 kg category for weightlifting at the 2020 Summer Olympics.

The 30-year-old Diaz received a total of 15 million under the Athletes and Coaches Incentives Act and 5 million each for silver-medalist boxers Nesthy Petecio and Carlo Paalam and 2 million for the bronze medalist Eumir Marcial.

While the PSC Chairman William Ramirez acknowledged the vital role played by the Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corporation (PAGCOR) through their contributions.

“Pagcor’s contributions funded the training and preparation of the Philippine team for the Olympics. With their help, our national athletes are able to show the world just how talented the Filipino athletes are,” he said.

On the other hand, PAGCOR assured their relentless support to the development of the Philippine sports as well as for the Filipino athletes.

“We will never tire in our effort to pump-in the necessary support to athletic development as we’re certain that more Filipino sports heroes will emerge in the future with ample financial backing,” PAGCOR CEO Andrea Domingo said.
