THE OUTSTANDING performance of Filipino athletes in the recently concluded Paris Olympics will serve as an inspiration to thousands of cadet-athletes who will compete in the national finals of the Philippine Reserve Officers’ Training Corps or ROTC Games.
Thus declared Senate Majority Leader Francis ‘Tol’ Tolentino, founder of the nationwide sports competition where 3,000 cadet-athletes from more than a hundred public and private colleges and universities will compete in 14 events from August 18-24.
“The honor that our athletes brought home from Paris is a testament to the value of investing in the Filipino youth. This is the same principle that drives the ROTC Games,” Tolentino noted.
“By promoting the values of fair play, teamwork, and discipline through sports, we are helping build our next generation of leaders,” he added.
This year’s games carry the theme, ‘Husay ng Kabataan, Husay ng ROTC’, and will feature 14 events.
These include arnis, athletics, basketball, boxing, chess, e-sports, kickboxing, sepak takraw, shooting, swimming, table tennis, taekwondo, volleyball, and the raiders’ competition.
The national championships will formally open on Sunday, August 18, in ceremonies to be held at the Cavite State University campus in Indang, Cavite.
Now in its second year, the ROTC Games reflect growing support for the youth reservist program, as evidenced by the increasing number of schools and cadet athletes joining the annual competition, the senator concluded.
