PH ROWING TEAM WINS EIGHT MEDALS IN ASIAN INDOOR ROWING TOURNEY

The Philippine Rowing Team hauled six silver and two bronze medals in the recent 2022 Asian Rowing Virtual Indoor Championships.

Tokyo Olympian Cris Nievarez led the crew to silver in the Under-23 men’s 2000 meters with a time of 6:25.90 seconds, finishing six seconds behind eventual winner Wong Ho Yin of Hong Kong (6:19.60).

Kristine Paraon nabbed two silver medals in the Under-23 women’s 2000-meter and 500-meter.

Joachim De Jesus (Under-23 lightweight men’s 500-meter), Zuriel Sumintac (lightweight men’s 500-meter), and Alyssa Go (Under-23 lightweight women’s 500-meter) pocketed one silver apiece.

Christian Joseph Jasmin and Kharl Julianne Sha earned bronze medals in the Under-23 lightweight men’s 2000-meter and Under-23 lightweight women’s 500-meter events, respectively, to round out the medal haul for the Philippine team.

“We are happy and proud with the performance of the team, especially our young rowers who showed a glimpse of their potential to win medals in international races,” said Philippine Rowing Association president Patrick Gregorio.

The performance of the Filipino paddlers was a boost in their campaign in the coming Southeast Asian Games in Hanoi, Vietnam, and the Asian Games in Hangzhou, China.
