Chandler McDaniel scored the match’s lone goal in the 81st minute, ending the Philippines’ 12-match losing spell against the powerhouse foe in its head-to-head matchups.

Thai goalkeeper Waraporn Boonsing initially caught the ball, but it slipped through her fingers as it bounced between her legs and rolled toward the goal.

The Philippines earned three points with their victory and will need to win at least one more game to advance to the quarterfinals.

“It’s a massive win. This gives us a lot of confidence, with three points in the board, considering the challenges that we faced in the last 24 hours,” Philippines head coach Alen Stajcic said in the post-match press conference.

The Filipina Booters is currently sitted at the number two spot of Group B, next to Australia who won their opening match against Indonesia, 18-0.

They will be aiming to secure their second win when they face Australia on Monday, while Thailand meets Indonesia.
