Both teams were trying to test the waters as the Angels claimed the first set and PLDT dominated the second frame.

Despite the surprise dip in the second frame for Petro Gazz, the team was set to retain their consecutive wins and clawed to the third frame as a mishit by Heather Guino-o on a down-the-line attempt gave the Gazz Angels a crucial 23-21 lead.

Mika Reyes tried to claim the victory by giving a 23-22 lead for PLDT after her running attack but the back-to-back errors of Eli Soyud and Guino-o handed Petro Gazz a 2-1 advantage.

PetroGazz took the PLDT’s crushed momentum as their advantage and raced to a 21-14 advantage in the fourth set and thereafter finished the game in an hour and 28 minutes with a seven-point lead at the last frame.

Both squads recorded a lot of errors in the game with a combined 70 miscues, Petro Gazz coach Jerry Yee said “It was an ugly win,” and added “But it’s nice to win in that fashion.”

Still, it was a remarkable effort for the Angels as Nicole Tiamzon led the team with 13 points, combined with MJ Phillips’ eight spikes and finished with 11 points, and Jonah Sabete’s 10 points, including three aces.

Meanwhile, Soyud had 17 points and Dell Palomata contributed 10 markers for the Fibr Hitters.

The Angels who are now at 2-0 standing in pool B will face Creamline Cool Smashers on Wednesday, March 23, at 6 pm.
