PETRO GAZZ CLAIMS THIRD-STRAIGHT WIN AFTER TROUNCING PERLAS SPIKERS
Petro Gazz Angels easily won their third straight victory as Perlas Spikers found it hard to reach more than 20 points each set, 25-17, 25-18, 25-17, at the PCV Socio- Civic Cultural Center in Barra, Ilocos Norte bubble on Friday afternoon.
Even though the game was short-lived, an exemplary performance was undeniable as Gretchel Soltones scored 17 points, five service aces, and 11 attacks, Marivic Meneses knocked out five blocks, and 15 markers, and Myla Pablo and France Molina added nine and eight markers, respectively.
The first set started with Pablo’s long attack and misread service receive from Angels which gave a 2-0 lead for Perlas Spikers but as the offense and defense system of Angels shined over the first frame, an 8-4 lead was brought to the first time out in the game.
As unforced errors were committed by Perlas Spikers, excellent blockings from Meneses, and kill attacks from Pablo, Petro Gazz was obviously in control of the first set with a 12-4 lead at early midframe, and at midframe a whopping 10 points deficit was observed, and even though the Angles tried to recover, the first still ended with 8-point lead in favor with Angels.
Even though the second set started by each team taking turns scoring, the fake dump attack from Pablo, a back-to-back single block from Meneses, and kill from Molina set the team with an 8-3 lead, as the midframe reaches a 13-16 lead for Perlas Spikers, their hope to recuperate vanished as the Angels’ game strategy can’t be tear down, ending the set with 12 -point lead.
Nevertheless, Perlas Spikers did not give up and brought an 8-all in the third set, and as Soltones gave simultaneous three service aces, a momentous run of Angels was reinforced, and it was also Soltones who ended the third frame with an 8-point lead after pushing against the blockers.
“Maganda kahit papaano nakakakuha ng momentum na tuloy-tuloy. But then again, ‘yung gusto naming makita na galaw namin, hindi pa namin nakukuha talaga. Kailangan pa namin trabahuin talaga,” Angels’ coach Arnold Laniog said.
“Every time na nananalo, maganda ‘yung result, but the game itself parang kailangan pa naming manalo para pagdating doon sa mga future games namin na makatapat namin ‘yung top teams mas prepared kami.”
