FILBASKET TO APPLY FOR PRO STATUS; TO WORK WITH GAB

After the Games and Amusements Board (GAB) warned Filbasket of conducting tournaments without the approval of the former, Filbasket is now ready to apply for professional status.

The Office of the President even declared the maiden tourney of the league last year as ‘unlawful’ and GAB shared that they should be under the supervision of the Board.

The league affirmed the same and said that the tournament they conducted was an ‘amatuer’ competition.

“As for our first tournament, it was amateur in nature. We held a short 26-day tournament to help our athletes and staff play again as basketball was not allowed during the pandemic. Our tournament was an invitational and we did not have any franchise teams,” Commissioner Jai Reyes explained.

But for now, Filbasket is ready to apply and work with GAb for pro status in order to conduct games in the future.

“We have already notified the GAB through email last December 7, 2021 of our withdrawal of appeal and our intent to turn pro for our next tournament.”

“We look forward in working with the GAB in our future tournaments as they can help Filbasket grow further as a professional league,” Reyes added.
