ESPEJO, FC TOKYO HOLDS 3-0 OVER BAGUNAS, OITA MIYOSHI
Marck Espejo trumped Bryan Bagunas after recording three straight wins for FC Tokyo against Oita Miyoshi 22-25, 25-22, 25-20, 25-17, in Japan V.League on Saturday at the Sumida Ward General Gymnasium.
The head-to-head games between the two Filipino volleyball imports meant that only one of them could win and it was Espejo and FC Tokyo who showed domination over their consecutive games.
Espejo demonstrated that sitting out for two weeks due to a shoulder injury was not an impediment to winning by assisting FC Tokyo to a 5-18 finish in ninth place.
In a four-set game, the V. League All-Star Espejo finished with 16 points off 15 attacks and an ace, while fellow import Jonas Kvalen led the win with 18 markers.
FC Tokyo dropped the opening set, but they rallied with a 6-3 blitz to tie the match at one set apiece, 25-22.
Even though Bagunas and Miyoshi started strong, they were unable to maintain their momentum and were unable to progress and win the following sets.
Still, Bagunas scored 22 points Oita built on 18 attacks, three blocks, and an ace for Oita.
The Filipino imports will have their final face-off on Sunday at the same venue.
