ESPEJO, FC TOKYO FALL AT THE HANDS OF PANASONIC AS V.LEAGUE RETURNS FROM HOLIDAY BREAK

Filipino import Marck Espejo resumed its Japan V.League campaigns with a loss as his FC Tokyo suffered a brutal straight-sets defeat over the Panasonic Panthers, 25-18, 25-18, 25-17.

The former Ateneo standout finished with a dismal number, scoring on only five of his 18 attack attempts while grabbing one block against Panasonic in the 2021-22 V.League Division 1 men’s tournament, Saturday afternoon at the Panasonic Arena Hall in Osaka.

Espejo nailed only five out of his 18 spike attempts.

Polish spiker Michał Kubiak led the scoring with 13 points to raise the Panthers to a 9-6 record, tied with Nagoya for the fourth spot in the 10-team field.

Issei Otake and Akihiro Yamauchi added 12 points apiece with the latter nailing seven spikes, four blocks, and an ace, while Kenyu Nakamoto and Yuichiro Komiya finished with eight markers each.

Jonas Kvaren top-scored for FC Tokyo with 11 attacks and two blocks while Yuma Nagatomo contributed 10 markers. 

Yamada Daigo chipped in four attacks and one denial in the devastating loss which put the team at eighth with a 4-11 record. 

Espejo and FC Tokyo are looking for redemption with a rematch against Panasonic on Sunday at 1:00 PM at the same arena.
