ERRAM, CASTRO CAME IN CLUTCH AS TNT DITCHES MERALCO
TNT retaliated from a 16-point second-half deficit as Poy Erram and Jayson Castro put the two consecutive last points to pinch down Meralco at 89-85 in the PBA Season 47 Philippine Cup.
Erram’s putback and Castro’s two free throws finished the game despite the first half not looking good for the Giga squad as the deficit went on as high as 16 points.
TNT tried to recover and trimmed the deficit to 10 points, with almost three minutes left in the shot clock of the last quarter.
Castro had a bolt of caffeine to put TNT alive and poured two straight triples in the last remaining minute. The team did not give up with Troy Rosario’s points followed by Castro’s layup tied the game at 78 pushing for overtime.
Erram put more effort in the overtime quarter after scoring six of his 13 points including his crucial basket helping Rosario who registered 19 points to commandeer the team.
TNT and Rain or Shine went for a score-for-score action with a knotted score of tied-85 with 1:18 minutes left not until Erram and Castro’s points gave the victory to TNT.
“In the end, the players never gave up. We found a way to grind it out,” said TNT coach Chot Reyes after the game.
