ELIEN PEREZ AND MARY FLOR DIAZ WRAPS UP WORLD WEIGHTLIFTING STINT

Elien Perez and Mary Flor Diaz fell short of bringing home a medal for the Philippines at the 2021 International Weightlifting Federation World Championships in Tashkent, Uzbekistan.

Perez placed eighth out of 13 competitors in the 49kg division with a total lift of 166kg, including a 73kg snatch and a 93kg clean and jerk.

Diaz, on the other hand, struggled in the 45kg and finished last in her division.

She was unable to lift her snatch attempts at 73kg, but rebounded in the clean and jerk, registering 80kg.

In the men’s competition, Fernando Agad exited the competition on a high note, finishing eighth in the 55kg division in his world championship debut last Tuesday.

He registered 108kg in the snatch and 131 in the clean and jerk, lifting a total of 239kg.

For the 61kg event, John Ceniza landed in eighth place tallying a 265 kg total lift with 115 kg in snatch and 150 kg in clean and jerk.

Dave Lloyd Pacaldo struggled in his comeback in the competition and placed 17th in the 67kg division with a total lift of 278kg.

Five weightlifters will compete in the remaining days of the competition, with John Dexter Tabique capping off the Philippine team’s campaign.
