COACH BRIAN SHAW TAKES KAI SOTTO’S SITUATION BEYOND HIS CONTROL

Ignite Coach Brian Shaw is still unsure of Kai Sotto’s path to the bubble in the NBA G League in Orlando, Florida this February 24 to gun the roster.

“That’ll be something that will be determined by the people that are above my pay grade,” coach Shaw said on Saturday after the select team’s victory, 113-105  against Raptors 905.

Initially, Sotto chose to play for the Gilas Pilipinas in the third window of the 2021 FIBA Asia Cup Qualifiers to be staged at Doha, Qatar.

Unfortunately, the tournament was cancelled and Sotto is now expected to go back to Ignite at an earlier date. However, the earliest date he can land on the court is February 23.

As per the Center for Disease Control and Prevention guidelines, traveling internationally will bound Sotto “to get tested 3-5 days after travel AND stay home and self-quarantine for seven days after travel.”

Nonetheless, if Sotto will be back on February 23 he could possibly get some light for the match on February 24 against Memphis Hustle and 10 more games after that.

“Right now, I’m just concerned about the guys that are here and coaching them and we’ll see what happens when we get to that point,” coach Shaw concluded.

The Ignite Team is currently standing on a 3-0 win-loss record.
