Veteran core Bernardino and Pontejos are sure to lead the way in showcasing the skills of Gilas wards in the FIBA Women’s Asia Cup competition set from Sept. 27 to Oct. 3.

Gilas women will face world no. 7 China on September 27 followed by no. 3 Australia on the 28th and no. 34 Chinese-Taipei the following day.

The competition will commence the debut of rookies 20-year-old Camille Clarin, 19-year-old Ann Pingol, and 18-year-olds Kristine Cayabyab and Ella Fajardo.

And as veterans and mentors of the team, Bernardino and Pontejos took the chance to inspire and teach the Gilas youngsters.

Yung sinasabi lang namin sa kanila, matuto lang sila every day,” Bernardino said in an interview with The Game.

Gawin lang nila yung gusto nilang gawin and yung mga advice ni Coach Pat sa mga plays, mga options na pwede gawin, additional na lang ‘yun.”

Pontejos added that the team was excited to compete alongside the rookies for it will be the first time of everyone playing with them.

Mas nakaka-excite kami panoorin kasi first time namin sila makakasama, first time rin nila kami makakasama,” said Pontejos.

The team also had veterans Chack Cabinbin, Khate Castillo, Clare Castro, Ria Nabalan, Janine Pontejos, and Andrea Tongco while Mar Prado is set to make her FIBA debut.

Bernardino and Pontejos also encouraged the future generation to follow their dreams and forge any challenge to induce growth and improvement.
