Such a feat was one for the books not only to the Azkals but as well as for the country as this is the largest victory since their consistent performance in the biennial regional football tournament in 2010 and surpassing their 4-0 triumph against Indonesia in the 2014 edition.

Azkals mentor Stewart Hall shared that the team performed very well and achieved their objectives during the match.

“I set the players three targets referring to the mental side,” Hall explained.

“First one was win the game because we need three points desperately. Second one, score goals because we need goal difference because it may come down to goal difference [for qualification] so we need goals. The third one, get in front early because I want to make substitutions. I want to use 16 players.”

The mentor who got his first win as the coach of the Philippine men’s football team was proud and satisfied saying that “those were the three objectives and we did it.”

While it was Martin Steuble who scored the first goal in a 25-yard kick in the 21st of the time followed by Amin Nazari in the 31st minute inside the box.

The triumph continued through the relentless goals of Angel Guirado, Patrick Reichelt, Jesper Nyholm, Bienvenido Marañon, and Kevin Ingreso.

“We played well especially in the first half. We did our job,” said Ingreso, who bolstered the last goal for the match.
