ALEX EALA MARCHES INTO MAIDEN DOUBLES FINALS OF SPAIN TOURNEY

Despite bowing out early on the women's singles main draw, Alex Eala is keeping her hopes alive in the doubles event with partner Oksana Selekhmeteva as they will be advancing to W25 Platja D’Aro finals.

The Filipino-Russian tandem had outlasted Isabelle Haverlag and Suzan Lamens of the Netherlands in a 6-3, 6-1 victory in the semifinals en route to their finals berth.

Their semis win was a breather compared to their quarterfinals showdown against top-seeded Russian pair Sofya Lansere and Vlada Koval where they ended their three-setter arduous match with a 6-3, 2-6, 12-10 win.

In the final round, they will be against Oana Georgeta Simion of Romania and Ustina Mikulskyte of Lithuania, who ruled out Spaniards Jessica Bouzas Maneiro and Claudia Hoste Ferrer, 6-0, 6-2.

The W25 Platja D’Aro was the first professional doubles tournament for Eala, who won the Australian Open junior girls’ doubles championship in 2020.

On the other hand, Selekhmeteva has also a grand slam title under her belt winning the 2019 US Open girls doubles.

Falling short to home bet Irene Burillo Escorihuela in the second round of the singles competition, Eala’s next singles tournament will be the 2021 French Open Juniors tournament where she has been accepted into the main draw.
