ALEX EALA LANDS WORLD NO. 3 IN ITF JUNIOR RANKING

Alex Eala slid back to the third spot of the International Tennis Federation’s (ITF) world juniors rankings following her campaign in the 2021 U.S. Open, the final Grand Slam played for the year.

In the latest update of the ITF rankings, the Filipino tennis sensation slipped back to number three with 2643 points following a quarterfinal finish in both Singles and Doubles play in the U.S. Open.

Eala relinquished her No. 2 spot to American Robin Montgomery, who accumulated 2766.25 points, ensuing her gallant US Open championship run.

Yet, Eala remains the only Asian in the top ten of the girls’ global juniors rankings.

Victoria Jimenez Kasintseva of Andorra remained as No. 1 with 3154.75 points despite falling short to Montgomery in the quarterfinals.

Meanwhile, Belarusian Kristina Dmitruk and French Elsa Jacquemot completed the top five with 2453 points and 2205.5 points, respectively. 

Eala bowed out in the quarters of the US Open to Sebastianna Scilipoti of Switzerland in the singles event.

In the girls’ doubles, Eala reached the semifinals with Belgian partner Hanne Vandewinkel.

Earlier this year, 16-year-old Eala claimed the second spot after winning her second juniors doubles Grand Slam in the 2021 French Open and a pair of titles in Milan.
