ALEX EALA ADVANCES TO SINGLES QUARTERS, DOUBLES SEMIS IN JA MILAN TOURNEY
Alex Eala continues to dominate after overcoming Ksenia Zaytseva and Russian partners Russians Ksenia Saytseva and Yaroslava Bartashevich in singles and doubles events respectively of the JA Milan tournament Trofeo Bonfiglio in Italy.
Filipina ace is nearing a finals berth in both singles and doubles events of the ITF World Tennis Tour Juniors’ JA tournament, Thursday at the Tennis Club Milano Alberto Bonacossai in Milan, Italy.
The 16-year-old Filipina netter earlier ousted Ksenia Zaytseva of Russia, 7-6(3), 4-6, 7-5, to secure her spot in the quarterfinals of Trofeo Bonfiglio girls’ singles event.
In the opening set, the two saw an intense match that Eala eventually overcame with a deuce, 7-6(3).
Come the second set, the Russian foe bounced back with a three-game run in the following set to force a decider against the Filipina.
Zaytseva took a two-point lead from Eala, 5-3, in the deciding set but the Pinay netter refused to give up and unleashed a four straight games win to secure the lead and subsequently wrap things up with the Russian foe after 2 hours and 50 minutes of action
The Juniors world no. 3 will next face Sofia Costoulas of Belgium in the quarterfinals.
Meanwhile, in the doubles event, Eala and American partner Madison Sieg also secured a win to move into the semis round after besting Russians Ksenia Saytseva and Yaroslava Bartashevich, 6-4, 6-3.
Eala and Sieg survived a scare in the opening set after being behind, 4-1, but the two crawled their way to tie the set and eventually snagged the set from behind.
The two young players learned their lesson in the second set, punching their way into an advantage of an early break to seal the win with another service break to wrap the match in 1 hour and 18 minutes of action.
Eala and Sieg will have to win against Russians once more, Kira Pavlova and Diana Shnaider to secure a spot in the finals.
