CARLOS Yulo struck gold for the second straight day, capturing the men’s vault title Friday and giving the Philippines its second gold medal at the Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games.

Yulo emerged on top with an average of 14.599 in the vault final at Nagoya General Gymnasium, adding another title to the floor exercise gold he won Thursday.

The Filipino Olympic champion scored 14.733 on his first vault, with 5.6 difficulty and 9.133 execution, then posted 14.466 on his second attempt, which carried 5.2 difficulty and 9.266 execution.

Mahdi Olfati of Iran finished second with 14.533, while Ka Ki Ng of Hong Kong took the bronze with 14.116.

Olfati opened strongly with a 15.100 but could only manage 13.966 on his second vault, leaving him behind Yulo.

South Korea’s Jaeho Kim finished fourth with 14.016, while Filipino gymnast Miguel Besana was fifth at 13.783.

Yulo, who became the Philippines’ first double Olympic gold medalist, is scheduled to compete in the men’s parallel bars later Friday as he seeks another podium finish.
