ADAMSON University showed class and confidence on the fifth and final deciding set en route to overcoming the gallant stand of the University of Santo Tomas, 15-25, 25-19, 16-25, 25-19, 15-11, Tuesday in the UAAP high school distaff volleyball tournament at the Paco Arena.

As such the Baby Falcons snatched their second straight win at the expense of the tremendously taller Junior Tigresses but this never actually mattered against their patented floor defense and smart plays to prevail in the arduous two-hour, 10-minute contest.

In the other game, defending champion Nazareth School of National University also threw everything save for the kitchen sink before putting away hard-fighting Far Eastern University-Diliman in four sets, 25-12, 25-16, 23-25, 31-29.

The victory allowed NS-NU to join Adamson on top of the heap flashing a similar unblemished 2-0 win-loss record.

Meanwhile, La Salle-Zobel stormed back from a third-set loss to prevail over UP Integrated School, 25-20, 25-21, 23-25, 25-20.

True, it was a heartbreaking loss for UST as the Espana-based volleyballers showed the way in the early going.

They uncorked comfortable leads of 3-0 and 8-2 in the early going of the deciding set but they lost the momentum when it mattered most, down the stretch.

A net touch violation put the Baby Falcons ahead for the first time at 10-9.

Princess Aljibe, Yesha Rojo, and skipper Shaina Nitura then delivered the key kills for Adamson to complete the come-from-behind win.

Celine Marsh hammered out a match-winning kill that closed out the one-hour, 56-minute clash for the Bullpups.

A Marsh attack, Abigail Pono service ace, and a Kianne Olango spike gave NSNU a 23-20 advantage.

But the Bullpups committed three consecutive errors that allowed the Baby Tamaraws to tie at 23-23.

FEU had several chances to send the match to a fifth set but NSNU always had the answers.

With the loss, the UST Junior Tigresses fell to 1-1 in a tie with the Junior Lady Spikers even as the Junior Fighting Maroons, and the Baby Tamaraws dropped to 0-2.

Mary Angela Jackson’s back-to-back service aces put UPIS to within 19-20 in the fourth set when La Salle-Zobel scored the match’s five of the last six points to wrap up the one-hour, 53-minute contest.
