ABANSE NEGRENSE PULLS OFF A 2-0 LEAD IN PSL BEACH VOLLEYBALL OPENER

Abanse Negrense puts through a 2-0 lead following its win over Sta. Lucia on the first day of the 2021 Gatorade-Philippine Superliga Beach Volleyball Challenge Cup Friday at Subic Bay’s Sands Court.

Jennifer Cosas and Gellimae Villanueva of Abanse Negrense B bounced back after a slow first set and took the victory over Sta. Lucia A’s DM Demontano and Jackie Estoquia, 6-21, 21-14, 15-11.

Abanse Negrense B holds now the no. 1 spot in Pool B ahead of the crossover quarterfinals as the duo also overruled the United Auctioneers’ Ella Viray and Theresa Ramas, 21-13, 21-12, in its first game of the competition.

Meanwhile, Alexa Polidario and Erjane Magdato of the Abanse Negrense A cruised also to a 2-0 lead in Pool A after taking down Sta. Lucia’s Bang Pineda and Jonah Sabete of Sta. Lucia B, 21-14, 21-12.

Polidario and Magdato first clinched its first win over Jennymar Senares and Kyla Gallego of F2 Logistics, 21-15, 21-12, in the morning session.

“We’re very happy po kasi gusto naman talaga ng lahat manalo. Kaya ginagawa namin talaga lahat yung makakaya namin para manalo sa bawat game,” Polidario shared.

After falling short to Ariane Alarcon and Christina Canares of Kennedy Solar Energy-PetroGazz, 21-10, 21-7, Pineda and Sabete of Sta. Lucia B now has a 1-1 standing, tied with F2 Logistics at second place in Pool A.

Cargo Movers Senares and Gallego took down Alarcon and Canares, 21-9, 21-6, which the latter now has a 0-2 standing. 

United Auctioneers and Sta. Lucia A are tied at the second place of Pool B with 1-1 standing after both teams defeated Toby’s Sports pair Jonah San Pedro and Javen Sabas.

With this, all of the 8-participating teams will take part in one last pool matches each on Saturday morning on which the league will determine their final rankings for the afternoon’s crossover quarterfinals.
