Love, Passion, and Sports

Whether you’re a fan of sports or on the opposite side of the field, you can’t deny that a relationship that grows in sports is pretty romantic. Philippine sports are undeniably intense but sparkling love in a court captivates fans to be hooked in their story. As studies show, sports fanatics get more interest in sports when there is a story that fuels the flames of love.

An opponent or a team, what excites the fans is a love story behind these players. There is little doubt that a link between athletes adds some flavors in Philippine sports. Now, let us take wonders and get attached to some athletes who find their romantic tale in sports.

Kiefer Ravena and Alyssa Valdez

Sports fans didn’t expect that the world of the ‘phenoms’ of Philippine basketball and volleyball would collide. The volleyball standout Alyssa Valdez and Gilas Pilipinas 2020 captain Kiefer Ravena amazed us with their story that sports could really bring people together. These Ateneo athletes revealed their relationship on June 8, 2016.

With their 4th anniversary last August 28, this year, the power couple only celebrated with their appreciation online due to lockdown. Now, the couple is sharing their sweet moments in their social media alongside working out together and keeping in shape, also helping people who are greatly affected by the pandemic.

Jeron Teng and Jeanine Tsoi

King Archer Jeron Teng showed us that the biggest award an athlete could have alongside championship games, MVP awards, and a legion of fans is that having the best cheerleader one could ever have. Power forward, Jeron enjoyed his relationship with courtside reporter, model, and tv host Jeanine Tsoi.

The couple just celebrated their 4th anniversary through a quarantine date three days ago. On Jeron’s own Instagram page, he wrote: “Happy 4th anniversary my love! Cheers to good times, 4 down, forever to go. love you!”

What a way to celebrate a sweet, romantic moment with your loved ones during this pandemic.

Jema Galanza and Deanna Wong

Who can’t forget the iconic staredown between these two? Adamson former spiker Jema Galanza and Lady Eagles’ Deanna Wong shared a sweet moment during a heated game at the last Premier Volleyball League (PVL) Open Conference. The fans could not get over on how these two showed affection with each other.

The couple is very much open to their relationship and could not resist a little PDA from time to time in which they shared some in their social media.

In a recent interview, Jema said that she is elated in competing with her partner in the club league, as Wong announced her commitment to the Premier Volleyball League’s newest team, the Choco Mucho Flying Titans. It would be expected that these two love birds could heat up the stage once again.

Denden Lazaro and La Revilla

The power couple is the manifestation that sports can ignite love in mysterious ways. Iron Eagle Dennise Michelle “Denden” Lázaro-Revilla is married to longtime partner and PBA player La Revilla last January 2020.

The two started playing their respective sports from a rival school in UAAP, as Denden supported athletes in blue and Revilla seeing action with athletes in green. But, it was not a hindrance to heat the romantic blossom that they have started.

Now, the two are still expected to play in their field, as Revilla is looking at a different path at NorthPort and Denden is rumored to play with the Choco Mucho Flying Titans.

Kevin and I got married yesterday during a civil ceremony???? We had a small celebration in our new home, with just our immediate families present. It was the most effortless get together- my brother played the piano, my sister brought beautiful flowers, we ordered in food, we drank lots of wine, we dipped our feet in the pool. No frills. It was the simplest celebration, but the most joyful and peaceful one. I still can’t get over it. ???? How good is our God who allows us to fall inlove, enjoy our families, and celebrate milestones- amongst many other realities we don’t deserve? ???? I tear up in awe and gratitude. Can’t wait to celebrate with all our family and friends in our postponed church wedding and reception next year. ???? Love and light, Maria Selina Dagdag-Alas

Love can really blossom in the hardcourt. Former Letran Knight Star Kevin Alas and courtside reporter Selena Dagdag showed us that perfect romance comes between a basketball star and a courtside reporter.

The longtime time couple just recently shared on their Instagram that they are now officially married. The union of the two happened last September 8, 2020. The two were expected to have a church wedding but tied the knot in a civil wedding, due to the concern of Covid-19. It was last year June 30 when the NLEX Road warrior happily proposed to Selina at the Elephant Rock in Taiwan.

We remembered their ‘kilig’ moment in PBA, when Alas was named the player of the game during a match prior to their 2OT game against Rain or Shine Elasto Painters and who was tasked to interview him was no other than Selina. The interview went a little bit awkward at the start, but Alas saw a chance to make a winning move by kissing Selina out of the blue before heading to the dugout—what a nakaw play by Kevin Salas!
