UP STUDENTS ARRESTED IN TARLAC POLICE OPERATION
THREE students from the University of the Philippines were arrested in a police operation in Hacienda Tinang, Conception, Tarlac.
The arrest came after 92 agrarian reform advocates were picked up during the operation in what police termed as illegal assembly and malicious mischief.
According to alternative media network, Altermidya, the people were there for the ‘Bunkalan’ or land cultivation activity before they were arrested.
Of the total number, three are students of the UP College of Social Science and Development.
Those arrested need P32,000 each for bail money.
Student groups in the university called for the release of the students, noting their arrest is an immediate attack against farmers, activists, and students.
“In the midst of expressing their legitimate grievances with the 27-year long delayed land reform process through collective farming, state forces harassed and arrested 92 individuals including CSSP students from the Department of Political Science and Department of History,” UP Polis Core Group said.
A total of P117, 000 is needed for the bail of the students, the UP CSSD Student Council said.
