OVER 5,000 TEACHERS IN CENTRAL VISAYAS UNVACCINATED — DEPED

/ 16 March 2022

THE DEPARTMENT of Education said that 5,390 teachers in Central Visayas have yet to be vaccinated against Covid19.

Salustiano Jimenez, DepEd regional director, said that these teachers will not be allowed to join in-person classes.

“Teachers are required to be inoculated against Covid19 otherwise they won’t be able to handle [in-person] classes,” he said.

Jimenez said that unvaccinated teachers accounted for 7 percent of the 77,000 teachers in Central Visayas’ 20 school divisions.

The region has 3,000 public grade schools and about 1,000 private schools.

The teachers who did not submit themselves for vaccination cited either “personal belief” or were “ineligible” due to some illnesses, Jimenez said.

Unvaccinated teachers will continue to report to school and will manage online classrooms and review students’ modules, he said.
