/ 27 February 2021

THE LOCAL government of Naic, Cavite enacted an ordinance to boost the protection of children.

Ordinance No. 24 or “An Ordinance Strengthening Child Protection, Imposing Penalties for Violations Thereof and Providing Funds Therefor, and for Other Purposes” promotes “positive discipline” and bans corporal punishment.

It mandates the adoption of a comprehensive emergency program for children.

It also requires at least three representatives from children’s organizations in the Barangay Child Protection Council.

“The approval of this ordinance helps ensure that children in the municipality remain safe and that they are well represented in discussions and decisions about their protection,” the LGU said.

The recommendations of the group Save the Children Philippines were taken in consideration in the enactment of the ordinance.
