INSECTICIDE-TREATED NETS USED IN OCCIDENTAL MINDORO SCHOOLS

/ 16 March 2025

THE OCCIDENTAL Mindoro Provincial Health Office has provided insecticide-treated nets in schools to help protect students from dengue-carrying mosquitoes.

Dr. Maria Anna Irene San, a medical officer from the MIMAROPA Department of Education, supports this initiative and explained that these treated nets are known to effectively reduce mosquitoes in schools.

“When a mosquito comes into contact with the nets, it dies due to the insecticide,” Dr. San said.

The PHO also reminded the Department of Education about the potential issue of using these nets as window screens, as they could increase indoor temperatures and make classrooms uncomfortably hot.

The Department of Health earlier warned that the number of dengue cases may rise in the second half of 2025. According to DOH data, 14,460 dengue cases were recorded from January 26 to February 8.
