GROUP LAUDS DEPED REGION 7 FOR DECLARING ACADEMIC BREAK

/ 23 January 2022

THE TEACHERS’ Dignity Coalition lauded the decision of the Department of Education’s office in Regional Office 7 decision to suspend classes in areas under Alert Level 3 in the region.

Classes will be suspended from January 24 to 31, 2022.

“With the alarming spike in Covid19 cases in Region VII and the wide extent of devastation left behind by Typhoon Odette last December, this is just a logical and necessary action,” Cebu City teacher Raul Constantino, TDC regional president, said.

The TDC earlier urged the Education department to declare an academic break nationwide.

However, the DepEd central office released a memorandum allowing regional and division officials suspend classes if the situation on the ground warrants it.

TDC National Chairman Benjo Basas said that there should be uniform guidelines for the entire DepEd system.

“The whole of Cebu should be a priority for academic health break because the province is under Alert Level 3, teachers there are physically reporting and they have not yet recovered from the devastation of Typhoon Odette,” Basas said.
