CHILDREN IN BAGUIO CITY CONTRACTED COVID19 AT HOME
MOST children who contracted Covid19 in Baguio City were infected by a family member, the Health Services Office reported.
MOST children who contracted Covid19 in Baguio City were infected by a family member, the Health Services Office reported.
Data showed that 1,795 children aged 5 to 11 contracted Covid19 from March 2020 to February 8, 2022.
Analysis of data by the City Health Services Office and the University of the Philippines Baguio- Department of Mathematics and Computer Science showed that minors were at risk.
The highest number of cases for the age group was reported in September last year when 498 children were infected with the virus.
There were 318 children who contracted the virus during the Omicron wave in January.
“The cases among children were not due to infection obtained from other people but from family members through home and workplace transmission, especially during the period of the surge,” Aileen Refuerzo, chief information officer of the city government, said.
“Despite measures to restrict the movement of minors to home, infection among children cannot be abated due to home and workplace transmission according to City Health Services Officer Dr. Rowena Galpo,” she added.
The city has started vaccinating children below 11 years old to protect them from the disease.
Mayor Benjamin Magalong said the city targets to inoculate about 28,000 kids in the said age bracket.
