/ 27 July 2021

THE CAPIZ State University and the local government unit of Ivisan, Capiz signed a memorandum of agreement on disaster preparedness.

CapSU said that the agreement, inked as the country marks National Disaster Resilience Month, is for the establishment of a backup communications tower or VHF Repeater System in Barangay Agustin Navarra.

The project is in line with the Commission on Higher Education’s Western Visayas Higher Education Institutions Disaster Communicators League which aims to establish coordination among universities.

“The primary telecommunications system (telephone, cell phone, and internet) are prone to calamities and disasters.  In case of worst-case scenario, radio transceiver system is the redundant system available and reliable for emergency communications,” CapSU DRRM said on Facebook.

“The objective is to enable every state [college] and [university] in the region to organize a redundant communication group and system for disasters and emergencies,” it added.
