YOUTH URGED TO REPORT FALSE INFORMATION ON SOCIAL MEDIA

/ 28 October 2023

THE Presidential Communications Office urged the public, especially the youth, to refrain from sharing false information on social media.

PCO Undersecretary Emerald Ridao asked those who come across false information to report it to authorities, noting that ending the spread of misinformation and disinformation is a collective responsibility.

“When you do realize that you have come across false information, report it, don’t share it. The spread of misinformation and disinformation ends with you,” Ridao said at the “Maging Mapanuri” Conference on Media and Information Literacy.

“It is our collective responsibility to safeguard the truth in an age where falsehoods threaten to obscure it,” she added.

She urged the conference participants to trace the ownership of the information and content and check if these were shared by credible organizations or individuals genuinely committed to truth.

“As we unite in our unwavering commitment to the truth, we will conquer what was once a daunting monster of misinformation. Together, we shall forge a future where the pursuit of truth stands above all else,” the official said.
