YOUTH GROUP HITS GOV’T SLOW RESPONSE TO HELP CALAMITY VICTIMS
A YOUTH group on Friday decried the government’s alleged slow response to provide aid to victims of calamities.
Youth Act Now Against Tyranny also lamented the lack of a concrete disaster mitigation plan.
“By the time that we demand immediate action from the Duterte administration and call to increase funding for urgent needs, it is quick to tell us to keep quiet. Incompetent public officials are abusing our bayanihan spirit in a vain attempt to divert attention from their lack of concrete plans before and during calamities,” group said on Facebook.
“They use the narrative of resiliency to cover up the fact that we could have been at least more ready for calamities if the national government did its job of allocating funds for disaster preparedness,” it added.
The group said that the government’s failure to respond to the recent typhoon calamities was one reason why President Rodrigo Duterte should go.
“Its failed leadership amid the pandemic and onslaught of recent typhoons adds to the long list of reasons why Duterte must no longer remain in office as chief executive,” it said.
