U.P. STILL ASSURED OF FULL SUPPORT DESPITE CREATION OF LEARNING MATERIALS DEVELOPMENT CENTER  — SOLON

/ 18 July 2021

ALBAY 2nd District Rep. Joey Salceda maintained the creation of Learning Materials Development Center will never be an additional burden to the University of the Philippines-College of Education.

The solon clarified the institution will be placed under the supervision of the UPCED but will be given full support.

“We will be giving you people. We will be giving you money. The LMDC will be a new center. We will not burden you,” Salceda said.

The lawmaker authored House Bill 6247 seeking to create LMDC and underscore the need to improve the education sector’s textbooks and instructional materials.

He said the bill would improve the learning outcome of students by making K to 12 graduates more readily-employable, better equipped with critical thinking and problem-solving skills, as well as imbued with the skills and capacities needed to be productive and active citizens of the country.

Once enacted into law, the proposed LMDC would be institutionalized as an attached agency of the UPCED.

While UP President Danilo Concepcion offered to support the improvement of learning materials, he appealed to legislators to instead create the LMDC as a separate agency.

Concepcion also explained the responsibilities and load stipulated in the measure would be beyond the capacity of the institution.
