SPARK PRODS MEDIA: EDUCATE FILIPINO VOTERS
THE SAMAHAN ng Progresibong Kabataan urged media organizations to use their platforms to educate Filipino voters, stressing that they play a key role in ensuring fair elections.
The group said that media groups should exercise their responsibility of providing fair, truthful, and complete information to their audiences.
“Their broad reach allows them the chance of improving a candidate’s chances with visibility and engagement. We see and have seen this happening with this election season and it isn’t right,” it said.
“The impact of media outlets cannot be ignored; therefore, in order to have free and fair elections, it is imperative for mainstream media to present truthful and complete information,” it added.
The group also called for mainstream media to include all presidential, vice presidential and senatorial candidates in interviews, debates, and other election releases.
“When news outlets present only a select few candidates, they push the idea that these are the only candidates who matter,” it said.
“By limiting the available information to voters, their choices are also limited,” SPARK added.
