SENATOR SEEKS BETTER DEPED INVENTORY SYSTEM

/ 9 October 2021

SENATOR Francis Tolentino urged the Departments of Science and Technology and of Information and Communications Technology to assist the Department of Education in coming out with a better inventory management system.

Tolentino made the proposal after the Commission on Audit flagged the inventory system of DepEd.

He stressed that it is time for the Education department to modernize its inventory system.

The senator said that the DOST and DICT can help DepEd establish an automated warehousing system, a cloud-based inventory system that is not based on papers, ledgers, or charts.

Education Secretary Leonor Briones welcomed Tolentino’s advice, admitting that managing inventory is a problem in the entire governmental.

“I’m not saying that we’re trying to avoid the blame but we know that it is a problem. Inventory is a constant and persistent problem and we will be very happy for assistance and advice on this because we’ve already started it, and we want to work on it,” Briones said.
