SENATE PANEL ASSURES 2025 NATIONAL BUDGET WILL REFLECT INVESTMENT IN CHILDREN’S NUTRITIONAL WELL-BEING

/ 11 November 2024

SENATE Finance Committee Chairperson Grace Poe emphasized the importance of investing in children’s nutritional well-being as an investment in the country’s future.

“This is the principle that my predecessor, former senator and now Secretary [Juan Edgardo] Angara of Education, carried in his years as Chair of the Finance Committee,” said Poe.

Poe expressed her commitment to this principle, not only as the Chair of the Finance Committee but also as a proud co-author of the Masustansyang Pagkain Para sa Batang Pilipino Act.

“Alam nating lahat na ang malusog na pangangatawan ay susi sa pagkakaroon ng listo at ganadong estudyante. Through the efforts of our Vice-Chairs Sherwin Gatchalian and Pia Cayetano, dinagdagan natin ang budget ng School-Based Feeding Program for our under-nourished learners,” she explained.

“On a personal note, matagal ko nang isinusulong ang programang ito, hindi lang bilang lingkod-bayan, kundi bilang isang personal na adbokasiya,” Poe added.

Poe stressed that every child deserves the chance to succeed, beginning with their basic need for food, stating, “Walang batang kayang magpursigi kung siya ay gutom.”
