SEI WELCOMES 785 NEW JLSS SCHOLARS

/ 24 August 2021

THE DEPARTMENT of Science and Technology’s Science Education Institute welcomed 785 college students who were accepted in the 2020 Junior Level Science Scholarships program.

The institute said that 170 out of the 785 scholars are based in the National Capital Region.

JLSS is a program for incoming regular third year college students enrolled in priority science and technology courses.

“We are excited to welcome you to our growing DOST-SEI family. The virtual conduct of the orientation shall kick-off the partnership between the DOST-SEI and the scholarship qualifiers,” SEI Director Dr. Josette T. Biyo said.

Some of the topics discussed during the orientation last August 18 were provisions of the scholarship agreement, policies and procedures, and access to the Scholar’s Portal.

Unlike in previous years, the DOST-SEI did not hold a national qualifying examination because of the Covid19 pandemic.

Instead, the applicants underwent eligibility screenings using the JLSS E-Scholarship Application System, where documentary requirements including grades for the first two years of college were scrutinized.
