SAN JUAN CITY IMPLEMENTS ADJUSTED CLASS SCHEDULES

/ 5 March 2025

TO PROTECT students from extreme heat, San Juan Mayor Francis Zamora has issued Executive Order No. FMZ-193, Series of 2025, adjusting class schedules for all public schools, including child development centers. The new schedule takes effect March 4, 2025.

Under the revised schedule:

Morning classes: 6:00 AM – 10:00 AM

Afternoon classes: 3:00 PM – 7:00 PM

This adjustment minimizes students’ exposure to the hottest hours of the day (10:00 AM – 3:00 PM), reducing the risk of heat-related illnesses. To ensure continuous learning, students will be given supplementary academic activities to complete at home during the remaining school hours.

For private schools, colleges, and universities in San Juan, the city government leaves the decision to school administrators but strongly encourages them to avoid in-person classes during peak heat hours for student safety.

Zamora emphasized that this proactive approach reflects the city’s commitment to student health and climate adaptation. The local government will continue monitoring the situation and provide support to educational institutions in implementing the policy effectively.
