PNP CHIEF DENIES TEEN WAS SHOT DEAD WHILE HANDCUFFED

/ 19 June 2021

PHILIPPINE National Police chief Guillermo Eleazar denied allegations that policemen shot and killed a minor and a man while handcuffed in Laguna.

Eleazar said that the PNP’s Internal Affairs Service will investigate the killing of Johndy Maglinte, 16, and Antonio Castilio Dallit, 40, last June 16.

“Una, hindi nakaposas tulad ng sabi nila. Kagaya ng ibang kaso, ang Internal Affairs Service ay papasok dito para mag-imbestiga. Binibigyan natin ng diin ‘yun para alam ng lahat na automatic ‘yan,” Eleazar said.

The Calabarzon (Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Rizal and Quezon) police said that Maglinte and Dalitt were killed after exchanging gunshots with the lawmen.

However, Anakbayan Laguna claimed that the police handcuffed Maglinte and dragged him to a marsh where he was killed. Dalitt, meanwhile, was said to have been shot inside his house in Barangay Landayan, San Pedro City.

The PNP chief said that Dalit has a previous warrant of arrest.

“Dati nang nahuli nung 2019, nag-plea bargain at nakalabas. Ito ‘yung basehan ng pag-serve ng warrant. Base sa sinabi ng pulis, involved sila sa ilegal na droga,” he said.

The Kabataan Partylist condemned the killing of Maglinte and Dalitt.

Anakbayan Laguna, on the other hand, called for justice for the duo.
