PRESIDENT Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. received an honorary Doctor of Laws, Honoris Causa, degree from the Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Maynila (PLM) on August 27, 2026.

The conferment took place during PLM’s 58th commencement exercises at the Philippine International Convention Center in Pasay City.

PLM University President Atty. Domingo Y. Reyes Jr. read the diploma during the ceremony, formally presenting the degree on behalf of the Board of Regents.

“Be it known that the Board of Regents, by authority of the Republic of the Philippines, on recommendation of the University President, has conferred upon His Excellency Ferdinand Romualdez Marcos Jr. the honorary degree of Doctor of Laws, Honoris Causa, with all the rights, honors, privileges, as well as the obligations and responsibilities appertaining thereto,” Reyes said.

Manila City Mayor Isko Moreno Domagoso led the bestowal of the academic regalia on Marcos, assisted by Reyes.

Domagoso then formally introduced Marcos to the graduating Class of 2026 before the President delivered his remarks as the ceremony’s guest speaker.

“Today I stand before you humbled as the Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Maynila confers upon me the degree of Doctor of Laws, honoris causa, its highest honorary degree,” Marcos said.

“I receive this honor with gratitude, mindful of the responsibility that comes with it,” the Chief Executive added.

Marcos said the recognition affirmed a principle shared by his administration and PLM: “that education must remain a pathway to opportunity, a catalyst for progress, and a cornerstone of nation-building.”
