/ 11 October 2026

THE Department of Budget and Management (DBM) and the University of the Philippines Manila have inspected ₱88.8 million worth of modern facilities and equipment designed to improve the training of future doctors, nurses, and other healthcare professionals.

DBM Secretary Kim Robert de Leon and UP Manila Chancellor Dr. Michael Tee led the inspection on Friday, October 9.

The facilities include the College of Medicine’s Skills Laboratory, worth ₱33.8 million; the College of Nursing’s Skills and Simulation Laboratory, valued at ₱45.8 million; and smart classrooms for the College of Allied Medical Professions, costing ₱10 million.

The upgraded laboratories and learning facilities aim to strengthen students’ knowledge and practical skills before they work with actual patients.

De Leon emphasized that free tuition is essential to giving more Filipino youth access to higher education. However, he stressed that universities must also have adequate equipment and well-maintained facilities to ensure quality education.

Meanwhile, Tee said government support for UP Manila strengthens not only education and research but also the preparation of healthcare professionals who will serve communities across the country.

He also underscored the importance of ensuring that public funds are used efficiently and deliver tangible benefits to the Filipino people.
