‘NO TALKS WITH DEPED ON MANDATORY ROTC’
THE CAMP of presumptive Vice President Sara Duterte-Carpio said that there are no talks yet on the planned mandatory Reserve Officers’ Training Corps. with the officials of the Department of Education.
“There has been no discussion on this matter either with Atty. Rivera or with the DepEd pending the official proclamation of the VP-elect,” Christina Frasco, spokesperson of Duterte-Carpio, said.
The statement was made after Atty. Bruce Rivera, a “close friend” of Duterte-Carpio, claimed that mandatory ROTC will be prioritized.
“This is to clarify claims by Atty. Bruce Rivera that Vice President-elect Sara Duterte’s first priority in the Department of Education will be mandatory ROTC,” she said.
“While VP-elect Sara looks forward to fulfilling her role as DepEd Secretary, she is respectful of the transition process, and therefore all policy discussions will be had post-proclamation,” Frasco said.
Duterte-Carpio earlier expressed support for mandatory military service for Filipinos reaching the age of 18.
