NETIZENS DEMAND TO REINFORCE HISTORY CLASSES IN BASIC EDUCATION
NETIZENS urged the Commission on Higher Education and the Department of Education to reinforce the teaching of history in schools.
The call was made after videos of the teen contestants of Pinoy Big Brother who failed to answer basic Philippine history questions went viral.
The netizens noted that the history questions the teens were asked were “basic” and could be answered even by elementary students.
Some of the questions asked were the nickname of Dr. Jose Rizal and Melchora Aquino and the acronym of the late martyr priests Gomez, Burgos, and Zamora.
“Seeing the ignorance of the youth to the even most basic nuggets of our history as exemplified in this segment could not help but bring to tears the concern of what will the next generation of Filipinos will be?” one netizen said.
“The education [in the] Philippines is on a crisis. It’s an embarrassment to our ASEAN neighbors,” another added.
