LAWMAKER TO CONTINUE PUSH FOR SEX EDUCATION
ISABELA Rep. Faustino Michael Carlos Dy III vowed to continue pushing for a measure that will integrate sex education in the school curriculum.
In the last hearing of the House Committee on Youth and Sports, lawmakers agreed to endorse for plenary deliberations the Adolescent Pregnancy Prevention Bill which provides a framework for the provision of education and access to Adolescent Sexual and Reproductive Care for the Filipino youth.
It will also institute programs for the provision of medical, legal and social services for adolescent mothers.
Kabataan Party-list Rep. Raoul Manuel said that it is an important step for young Filipinas.
“Ito ay mahalagang hakbang hindi lang para sa mga adolescent mother, pero para sa mga at-risk na kabataang kababaihan. Sa pagpapalakas ng edukasyon at serbisyo, mapipigilan natin ang patuloy na pagdami ng mga ina na hindi handa mentally, physically, financially, at socially,” Manuel said.
Meanwhile, Albay Representative Edcel Lagman said that early pregnancy is a crisis.
“Adolescent pregnancy is a crisis with clearly documented health and economic consequences on young parents,” Lagman said.
