LAWMAKER: STOP ATTACKS ON YOUTH GROUPS

/ 26 July 2021

KABATAAN Partylist Rep. Sarah Jane Elago called on the government to focus on the safe reopening of schools instead of attacking youth organizations.

Elago said instead of prioritizing economic aid to families and students, expanding Covid19 testing and vaccination, and ensuring the safe reopening of schools, the government through the National Task Force to End Local Communist Armed Conflict and Office of the Solicitor General would rather silence government critics.

“We would rather focus our energy on forwarding the youth and the people’s interests rather than be preoccupied with NTF-ELCAC’s shenanigans,” Elago stressed.

The lawmaker lamented that she has been accused of being a communist front. She stressed that the only fronting that Kabataan partylist  is guilty of is being at the forefront of the struggle for education, livelihood, social services, and the rights and welfare of the youth.

A petition to cancel Kabataan partylist’s registration for next year’s election has been filed at the Commission on Elections.

“The case filed by NTF-ELCAC and the Office of the Solicitor-General rests upon baseless claims, accusations from dummy witnesses, and an intricate web of lies,” Elago said.

She believes that the case is part of a smear campaign to wipe out progressive candidates and divert public attention from government scandal and incompetence.

“We’re unbothered and super focused now on our constituency work and advocacy campaigns,” Elago said.
