NORTHERN Samar 1st District Rep. Paul Daza called on the government to improve access to tertiary education and reduce attrition rates among 4Ps beneficiaries and financially challenged students.
Through House Resolution 767, Daza also urged the government to increase the budget for scholarships.
The lawmaker stressed that education enables an individual to reach his potential and lifts families out of poverty.
He urged his colleagues to call for an increase in allotment for scholarships including the Student Financial Assistance Programs, Tertiary Education Subsidy and Tulong-Dunong Program.
Daza said that the education sector was greatly affected by the Covid19 pandemic and thousands of students had to discontinue their studies or seek loans to be able to enroll.
Even with notable scholarships programs such as those under the Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program, he said millions of students still could not continue their studies and eventually drop out.
