GENERATIONS OF PMA CAVALIER AWARDEES CONTINUE TO SHAPE THE PHILIPPINE ARMY
THREE Army officers received the prestigious Philippine Military Academy (PMA) Cavalier Awards for 2025 during the academy’s annual homecoming, which was attended by thousands of alumni at Fort Del Pilar, Baguio City, on February 15, 2025.
PMA Cavalier awardees continue to play a key role in shaping the Philippine Army’s mission to serve the people and secure the land.
The recipients of this year’s awards were: Philippine Defense and Armed Forces Attaché for Europe Col. Joseph Jeremias Cirilo C. Dator, who received the award for the Army Special Operations Category; Army Spokesperson Col. Louie G. Dema-ala, for the Army Operations (Senior Officer) Category; and Army Capt. Nursaif N. Radia, for the Army Operations (Junior Officer) Category. Army Chief Lt. Gen. Roy M. Galido also attended this year’s homecoming, which carried the theme “Advocates of Transformation: Cavaliers Leadership in Action.”
Over the years, the PMA Alumni Association Inc. (PMAAAI) has honored exceptional Army leaders with this prestigious award. In 2024, the awardees included Philippine Army’s Assistant Chief of Staff for Education and Training, G8, Col. Von Albert M. Sumergido (Army Operations, Senior Officer Category); Col. Joey Fontiveros (Special Field – Cybersecurity Category); and 1Lt. Cielo Rose Dolorican (Army Operations, Junior Officer Category).
In 2023, the PMA Cavalier Award went to Maj. Gen. Alex S. Rillera (Ret.) for Outstanding Performance in Staff Function; Brig. Gen. Consolito Y. Yecla for Outstanding Performance in Army Operations; Lt. Col. Demosthenes Doplayna (Ret.) for Outstanding Contributions to Alumni Affairs; and Lt. Col. Marion Bagtang Cayat for Special Operations.
In 2022, the awardees included: Maj. Gen. Edgardo De Leon (Ret.) for Outstanding Performance in Staff Functions; Lt. Gen. William Gonzales (Ret.) for Outstanding Performance in Command Administration; Col. Herbert Diaz Dilag for Outstanding Performance in Special Operations; and Lt. Col. Gladiuz Cariaga Calilan for Army Operations.
In 2021, former National Defense Chief Delfin N. Lorenzana, former Social Welfare and Development Chief Joselito D. Bautista, National Security Adviser Eduardo M. Año, and Presidential Peace Advisory Secretary Carlito G. Galvez Jr. received the PMA Cavalier Award for Public Administration. Other recipients that year included former AFP Chief of Staff and Army Commanding General Lt. Gen. Jaime S. De Los Santos (Ret.) for Alumni Affairs; Lt. Gen. Ernesto C. Torres Jr. (Ret.) for Command and Administration; and Maj. Gen. Yegor Rey P. Barroquillo Jr. for Army Operations.
The PMAAAI, with thousands of members from classes 1945 to 2024, annually awards the Cavalier Honors to members, both active military personnel and retirees, who have made significant contributions across various fields.
