ESTABLISHMENT OF NATIONAL SCIENCE AND MATH HS IN CAGAYAN PUSHED
CAGAYAN 3rd District Rep. Joseph Lara filed a measure on the establishment of a national science and mathematics high school in the municipality of Iguig.
In pushing for House Bill 5434, Lara said there is a need to create a science and mathematics high school that will serve students in the entire province.
The lawmaker said that the province only has the Tuguegarao Science High School which only accepts students residing in the city.
Lara pointed out that the Constitution mandates the state to protect and promote the right of all citizens to quality education at all levels and to make education accessible to all.
“It also mandates the state to give priority to research and development, invention, innovation, and their utilization; and to science and technology education, training, and services,” he said in his explanatory note.
Under House Bill 5434, the Secretary of Education is obliged to include in the Department’s program the operationalization of the Cagayan National Science and Mathematics High School, the funding of which shall be included in the annual General Appropriations Act.
