DICT PROVIDES INTERNET ACCESS TO INDIGENOUS PEOPLES IN BAGUIO

/ 14 August 2020

THE DEPARTMENT of Information and Communications Technology has provided internet access to Indigenous People communities in Baguio City.

This as the department continues to install Wi-Fis in various schools and public places as part of its #FreeWifiForAll project.

Three Wi-Fi sites will give the IPs free access to internet connectivity  and enable them to meet the demands of online classes this school year.

“One of the primary goals of our intensified Free Wi-Fi for All Program is to connect educators and learners and enable them continued access to quality education, in view of President Duterte’s directives to the IATF to prioritize connectivity for education amid the public health emergency,” said DICT Secretary Gregorio B. Honasan II.

Happy Hallow Elementary School, Happy Hallow National High School, and the Happy Hallow Barangay Hall are now connected via DICT Luzon Cluster 1’s.

The Free Wi-Fi For All Program is being implemented by DICT in partnership with Benguet Electric Cooperative.

“This is only our first step in bridging the digital divide in the barangay. Rest assured that we will implement more projects here. We will set the establishment of a Tech4ED Center so the public can also enjoy free computer usage,” said DICT LC-1 Director Leo Ugto

DICT has installed more than 4,000 Wi-Fis nationwide and targets to install 10,000 more by the end of 2020 as well as 104,000 hotspots in 2023.
