/ 16 October 2021

THE DEPARTMENT of Education backed a measure seeking to establish a framework for funding the development and operations of the National Museum of the Philippines through the annual General Appropriations Act.

During a virtual meeting, the House Committee on Basic Education and Culture chaired by Representative Roman Romulo tackled House Bill 7621 authored by Pangasinan Rep. Christopher de Venecia.

Under the bill, the funding for the National Museum will complement and support the development of K to 12 education.

The measure aims to recognize the importance of museums in the complementarity and non-formal education of learners.

Education Assistant Secretary for Finance-Budget and Program Monitoring, and Procurement Ramon Fiel Abcede said the DepEd welcomed the bill which proposes benchmarking a funding allocation of one percent from the DepEd’s budget.

Members of the panel agreed to finalize the funding provision of the bill in their next hearing.
