CHED URGES STUDENTS TO GET COVID19 JABS

/ 14 October 2021

THE COMMISSION on Higher Education on Wednesday urged students to get vaccinated against Covid19 in preparation for the resumption of physical classes in other degree programs.

“We ask our students to be ambassadors of vaccination to everyone, so that slowly, kapag nabakunahan po natin ang marami unti-unti po natin maibabalik ang pagbubukas ng ating mga eskwelahan,” CHED Chairman Prospero De Vera III said in a media briefing at the Mabalacat City College in Pampanga.

He said that 73 percent of higher education personnel in 1,488 universities and colleges have been vaccinated against the coronavirus disease.

The CHED chief admitted that some areas have low inoculation rates due to lack of vaccine supply such as in Aklan State University where only 30 percent of its students and faculty were given jabs.

Now that the country has ample Covid19 vaccines, De Vera said the agency is planning to achieve herd immunity in universities and colleges by the end of the year.

“Gusto natin kapag dating ng November or December mabakunahan na ang mga estudiyante. We should all get vaccinated (because) that is the only way we could open up our higher education,” he said.
