AKO BICOL Partylist has expressed its approval of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s appointment of Senator Juan Edgardo “Sonny” Angara as the new Secretary of the Department of Education.

The partylist described the selection as a “perfect choice” given Angara’s extensive experience and qualifications.

In a statement, AKO BICOL Partylist lauded the decision, stating, “We believe Secretary Angara is an excellent fit for the Department of Education. His wealth of expertise, credentials, and perspectives make him an ideal leader for this critical role.”

The partylist also highlighted the significance of Angara’s appointment as the country prepares for the State of the Nation Address (SONA) on July 22 and the forthcoming budget hearings.

They expressed eagerness to engage with the new Secretary on these occasions, particularly to discuss key educational issues and budgetary concerns.

In anticipation of his role, AKO BICOL urged Angara to thoroughly review the proposed 2025 DepEd budget. They emphasized the need for a budget that directly addresses the ongoing quality crisis in the nation’s public K to 12 schools.

Additionally, the partylist encouraged Angara to maintain high visibility and engagement with students, teachers, and parents.

“We counsel the new DepEd Secretary to quickly land on his feet, familiarize himself with his responsibilities, and consult with key stakeholders to ensure a smooth enrollment process and school opening,” the statement read.

AKO BICOL reiterated the importance of swift action and leadership, concluding, “The sooner Secretary Angara takes hold of the DepEd reins, the better it will be for our education system.”
